CHESTNOU FESTIVAL IN CHANIA - 2 DAYS

A wonderful two days in Western Crete, full of history, tradition, unique natural landscapes and of course... the aroma of autumn and chestnuts!

SATURDAY OCTOBER 24: Departure in the morning for Western Crete, with a first stop for our necessary coffee. We continue to the Monastery of Agios Georgios in Karydi Apokoronou, a unique monument of the area and a special example of popular architecture. A trademark of the monastery is the impressive olive press with 12 arches, a monument that takes us back to other times. Our next stop is Fres, a historic village of Apokoronas, spread over a fertile area with a panoramic view and surrounded by green olive groves and vineyards. The rich nature, centuries-old plane trees, running waters and landscapes that alternate between rocks and ravines create a scene of authentic Cretan beauty. Free time for lunch in a traditional tavern. Then we depart for Chania, where we will settle into our hotel. The afternoon is free to enjoy a beautiful walk in the old town of Chania. The picturesque narrow streets, historic buildings, the Venetian harbor and the unique atmosphere of the city create the ideal setting for an afternoon stroll. Overnight in Chania.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 25 – CHESTNUT FESTIVAL: After breakfast we depart for Elos, one of the most important Chestnut Villages of Chania. Our route passes through the wild and impressive Topoliano gorge and the characteristic tunnel of the area. For those who wish, we will make a small climb of about 185 steps in order to visit the impressive Grotto and Temple of the Wisdom of God, a place associated with many legends and traditions. Then we will enjoy our coffee in a beautiful natural landscape. Our next and most important stop is Elos, the picturesque village of Kastanohori which at this time wears its autumnal colors and welcomes us for the Chestnut Festival. A traditional village in the middle of nature, among chestnut trees, olive trees, plane trees and abundant running water. There we will have the opportunity to get to know the local tradition up close and enjoy a beautiful celebration with traditional Cretan flavors, music, local melodies and lots of fun, in an authentic autumn atmosphere. A different Sunday morning, full of Crete, tradition, flavors and people! After the completion of the event, we take the road back, taking with us beautiful images and... the taste of the autumn of Crete!
