The jewel of Catalonia: Sagrada Familia, Gothic Quarter and optional excursion Girona – Figueres
Discover Gaudí's architecture, the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla and the flavors of Catalonia, with direct flights from Thessaloniki and accommodation in central 4* hotels.
Our long-awaited travel experience begins at Macedonia Airport, with a direct Aegean Airlines flight to Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and one of Europe's most charming city break destinations. Upon arrival, we will meet our local Greek-speaking escort, who during the transfer to the hotel will give us the first useful information about the city, its neighborhoods, transportation, entertainment options and places worth discovering in the coming days. We will thus have a first impression of Barcelona and its special atmosphere, before even starting our organized acquaintance with the city. Arrival at the hotel and settling in the rooms. Then with the guidance of our leader we will take a leisurely walk in the neighborhood of the hotel, for a first acquaintance with the daily life of the city, the lit streets, the small shops and the atmosphere of the area. This first walk will take us to one of the neighboring cafés or tapas bars, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy a coffee, a glass of wine or a light dinner, slowly getting into the rhythm of Barcelona. The city is particularly lively, cosmopolitan and atmospheric, ideal for beautiful evening walks and authentic local experiences.
After breakfast we start our acquaintance with the heart of Barcelona. Today is dedicated to the most important attractions, the historical neighborhoods and the special architectural features of the city. Our first stop is the iconic Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudi's masterpiece and perhaps Barcelona's most recognizable symbol. We will see it from the outside, learn about its history and understand why this masterpiece remains one of the most important architectural works in the world. Then, on our bus ride, we will pass the famous Passeig de Gràcia, known for its noble buildings and impressive architecture. Here we will admire two of Gaudí's greatest works, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà – La Pedrera, as well as other remarkable buildings by important Catalan architects. Our tour continues with a walking tour of the magnificent Gothic Quarter, the historic center of the city. We will walk through narrow medieval alleys, see the imposing Barcelona Cathedral and discover small squares, atmospheric corners and points that connect the city's past with its present life. Passing through Via Laietana, we will head towards the El Born district, one of the most loved and lively areas of Barcelona. With an artistic character, small boutiques, wine bars, cafés and traditional restaurants, Born is ideal for those who want to feel the authentic pulse of the city. There we will visit the exterior of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar, also known as "Our Lady of the Sea", one of the most beautiful Gothic monuments in Catalonia. Our tour ends at the beautiful Plaça Reial, one of the most atmospheric squares in the city, ideal for coffee, lunch or a glass of wine. Free time in the city center at La Rambla square and return to the hotel at your own time. In the evening we suggest enjoying an authentic Flamenco show. The dynamic rhythms, intensity, passion and theatricality of the dance create one of the most quintessentially Spanish experiences — perfect for a winter night in Barcelona.
Today is free to enjoy Barcelona at your own pace or, alternatively, join our optional excursion to Girona and Figueres, two of Catalonia's most unique and authentic destinations. Our excursion starts from Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dali. Here we will have the opportunity to visit the famous Dalí Theatre-Museum, a space as eccentric and subversive as the artist himself. The museum houses the largest collection of Dali works in the world and offers a unique journey into the world of surrealism, fantasy and artistic extravagance. Then we will depart for Girona, one of the most beautiful cities in Catalonia. Built on the banks of the Onyar River, Girona impresses with its colorful houses, bridges, walls, stone alleys and the atmosphere of a city that retains its medieval character unchanged.. We will tour the old town, see the imposing Girona Cathedral and walk through the historic Jewish Quarter, one of the best preserved medieval Jewish quarters in Europe. Girona is ideal for a winter visit, as the quieter atmosphere of the season brings out its charm even more. Return to Barcelona in the late afternoon. The evening is free to eat, drink or stroll through the illuminated neighborhoods of the city.
The last day in wonderful Barcelona is full of tastes, images and beautiful memories. As the return flight is scheduled for the evening, we will have enough time to enjoy a few more hours in the city. We suggest you visit again the famous La Boqueria, the biggest and most famous market in Barcelona, full of colors, aromas and authentic Spanish flavors. There you can try local cured meats, such as excellent jamón, fresh fruit, seafood, cheeses and of course tapas. To complete your culinary experience, don't miss to try the famous hot chocolate churros, one of the most matching sweet treats. You can also take advantage of your free time for a last stroll down Passeig de Gràcia, shopping in the Plaça Catalunya area, having a coffee in the Gothic Quarter or a leisurely stroll along the beach zone, enjoying the winter Mediterranean atmosphere of the city. Before we depart, let Barcelona enchant you once more with its pace, its unique architecture, its gastronomy and its cultural heritage. This is followed by the transfer to the airport for the return flight, with the memories of this enchanting city accompanying us for a long time.
