From Nairobi to Mombasa | Safari in the Abocelli & Tsavo National Parks——————————-
Kenya can be a good introduction to sub-Saharan Africa, as we are talking about the most organized of the neighboring countries and traveling to it is quite more affordable compared to the rest. Its quality features, such as the very good lodges, the all-inclusive hotel on Diani Beach, the enrichment of guided tours in Nairobi and Mombasa, but also the rich safaris in Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks, make up a special trip and a comfortable and pleasant combination of photographic safari and exotic beaches on the east coast of Africa, in the land of the Swahili in the Indian Ocean.
1st Day | Athens / Thessaloniki / Larnaca - Nairobi
Meet up with our tour group at the airport and fly to Nairobi. With approximately 3,500,000 inhabitants, Nairobi is the largest city in East Africa and one of the largest in the entire "Black" continent. At the same time, it is also a dynamic and modern city that is considered one of the fastest growing in the whole of Africa. It was founded in 1899 and became the capital of Kenya after Mombasa in 1905.
2nd Day | Nairobi
Arrival in Nairobi and check-in at our hotel. After having rested enough, in the afternoon we will start our city tour. First we will visit the very interesting National Museum of Nairobi, a multidisciplinary institution whose role is to collect, preserve, study, document and present the past and present cultural element of Kenya. Since 1929, it has offered a wide presentation of the rich heritage of the country and the entire African continent. Then we will go to get to know the capital of Kenya better. Kenya's largest city, it still describes all the romance and adventure of its colorful colonial days. The city evolved from a humble camp for railway workers in 1899 to the capital of British East Africa by 1907. Today, Nairobi's rich history and culture comes alive in its excellent museums. During our tour we will see some of its most important attractions. Back to our hotel for a little rest and our evening is predicted to be very impressive. We will enjoy a delicious dinner at the famous Carnivore restaurant, one of the 50 best restaurants in the world according to the prestigious British magazine "Restaurants", where we will taste his famous barbecue meat - nyama choma in Swahili. We could not have had a better welcome.
Return to the hotel and stay overnight.
3rd Day | Nairobi - Amboseli National Park - Safari
After breakfast we depart for the Amboseli National Park near the border with Tanzania, which will host us for two days and offer us images and experiences that will remain forever etched in our memory. The park has an extremely large population of elephants and other wild animals, which is why it offers a high-quality safari.. But what makes Amboseli Park stand out is the magnificent view it offers towards Mount Kilimanjaro, which is the highest mountain on the planet standing alone, not part of a mountain range. This makes Kilimanjaro extremely impressive, as its entire height is visible from the ground. So the safari from here is even more impressive, giving a postcard view of the always snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro. The streams from Kilimanjaro create waterholes in the center of Amboseli that attract most of the large mammals of the area. We will look for them with a satisfying afternoon safari that we will enjoy in the open, grassy fields of the park. Overnight and dinner at a lodge in Amboseli.
4th Day | Amboseli National Park
Very early morning waking up with a bright African smile and a hot mug of coffee. Besides, the best time to see Kili, as the locals affectionately call Kilimanjaro, is at sunrise, when the light is clear and less intense. This is the ideal time to watch the large mammals while they are still in action. Later, with the heat, they will hide in the coolness to enjoy their siesta and we will return to the lodge. In Amboseli we will first look for elephants. It is one of the few places on the planet where we can find elephants free, that we can get so close to. We will also look for leopards, hyenas, giraffes, cheetahs, buffaloes, many species of antelope and the beautiful birds of paradise found here. After the morning safari, return to the lodge for a few hours of rest. At noon, nature calms down in Africa. We'll spill out again in the afternoon, at this feast of predators and prey. At the end of the day, a hot bath, a drink by the roaring fire and dinner under the stars, then chatting about our experiences until our eyelids close tiredly. Tomorrow a different experience awaits us. We will hear the animals roaring, we will have seen the sun rise like a huge red bubble and in the end we will be left with a sadness, for all those dawns we may have lost... Overnight.
5th Day | Amboseli National Park - Tsavo National Park - Safari
After having our breakfast, we depart by road for the interior of Kenya, with our destination Tsavo National Park. Tsavo is also known as "Land of lava, springs, cannibals and magical sunset". If the word "man-eater" scared you, let's clarify that this reputation is due to the colonial years and especially during the construction of the railway network in the area, when there were many lion attacks on people working on the project. If the weather is clear and the atmosphere clear, we will also be able to gaze at the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, with its snow-capped peaks. Overnight in a lodge.
6th Day | Tsavo National Park - Diani (Mombasa)
A delightful breakfast at our lodge and we leave for the famous holiday resort of Mombasa, the largest port in East Africa, bathed by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. We specifically will be staying in the Diani area, where we will be traveling by boat. Diani is a beautiful beach on the Indian Ocean coast that rains in Kenya, just about 30 kilometers south of Bobasa. It has been voted Africa's top beach destination five times in a row since 2015 and has a total length of around 17km. There you can enjoy a range of activities such as kitesurfing, jet-skiing and snorkelling, and it is famous for its coral reefs and pigeon monkeys.. In addition to many hotels, the area is full of restaurants and shopping centers. In this magical destination, the blue-green waters and the lush vegetation will make us leave all our worries away. If of course we decide to check out of our hotel, which in itself is a thrilling experience. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. Relaxation for the rest of the day at the wonderful resort and free time to enjoy it wherever and however we wish.IMPORTANT NOTETwo or three (2 or 3) nights (depending on departure) in Mombasa at an All Inclusive hotel (drinks and meals included).
7th Day | Diani - Mombasa - Free Day
Free day to enjoy the amazing Indian resort, our hotel facilities, the white sandy beach or to indulge in some of the water sports it offers. We will spend hours lounging in the bright Kenyan sun, haggling with the persistent street vendors and enjoying tropical cocktails under the towering palm trees. Accommodation at the resort.
8th Day | Diani - Mombasa City Tour - Return
Departure from the hotel towards Mombasa. Our first stop will be at a small local craft shop, where we will be able to purchase original gifts and souvenirs (mostly wooden). This is followed by a tour of the old city of Mombasa with its interesting Arab quarter and a visit to the fort, which was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. The city itself is built on an island, at the entrance of a large bay. We will get in touch with the incredibly varied history of the region, the famous navigator Vasco da Gama landed in the port of Mombasa in 1948, as he was heading to the East Indies, inaugurating the presence of the Portuguese in the region. Here they established the capital of their possessions in East Africa, not without repeated clashes with the numerous tribes of the region. In 1698 Mombasa fell into the hands of the Arabs, then it was conquered by the Sultans of Muscat (1793) and later by the Sultans of Zanzibar (1828). In 1887 it was occupied by the British and in 1895 they established here the capital of the protectorate of British East Africa. Dinner in the city and then we board the return flight.
